Confession time. I hardly ever wear jewellery. In fact, it annoys me quite a lot. It makes me fidget, it distracts me, and sometimes it even makes me itchy. Especially rings, I hate how they make your finger sweaty underneath. Even if it’s those thin stack rings. The sweat is real. But, I also know the blood and sweat (literally) that goes into making a piece of jewellery. So I still appreciate a good design. Kataoka Jewelry is a brand that I can definitely appreciate.

On one of my bottomless Pinterest crawls, I came across Kataoka Jewelry. It stopped me in my scrolling tracks. I would wear every single thing designed by this brand. Fact.

Kataoka Jewelry design sketches

Who

Kataoka Jewelry, established by Yoshinobu Kataoka in 2011 in Tokyo, Japan. Yoshinobu Kataoka has over 25 years of experience as a designer and goldsmith.

He “is driven by the desire to design and handcraft delicate jewelry that lasts forever and creates a feeling of excitement for whoever sees them.”

I don’t know about you, but I can relate to that. Isn’t that what we all want out of our jewellery?

What

Jewellery! Obviously. The collections range from rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Let’s talk about the rings for a second. I’ve never seen such delicate, simple, yet detailed work. Some of the rings have an antique style, but Kataoka combines this with unexpected elements in the designs. The twisted bands, milgrain edges (the texture that runs along the band of some of the rings), and innovative stone cutting and setting techniques all make these rings little pieces of heaven.

How

One of the things I love about Kataoka Jewelry is their innovation. The gold they use is recycled from Japan’s advanced high-speed electronics industry. It is of extreme purity and they “custom-blend” it according to Yoshinobu Kataoka’s exact specifications. This is exclusive to Kataoka Jewelry.  This process creates a pleasing vintage hue in the metal. For instance, their rose gold is subtle and not as pink as you see in designs today.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, here is more.  Kataoka Jewelry started because the jewellery market today is saturated with poorly crafted, over-priced jewellery that produces harmful industrial waste. I’ve made my fair share of jewellery and I can tell you some of the chemicals used can kill you.Or burn through your skin. Seriously!

Manufacturing process Kataoka Jewelry

Kataoka Jewelry uses no harmful chemicals in its manufacturing process. All the pieces are handmade. The gemstones and diamonds are set by hand. The collections are produced in limited quantities to ensure minimal environmental impact and maximum quality. They also make sure all their gemstones, metals, and diamonds are conflict-free and untreated. All I can say is I’m sold.

Wordless

I really don’t think I can write anymore about how amazing I think this brand is. I’m obsessed with unique things. The simplicity of their designs combined with the elegance of each piece is incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it before. There is also the sustainability factor, which I will always support.

I will now be quiet and let you go on a visual (and drool-worthy) journey of Kataoka Jewelry below.

One more thing. They ship worldwide free of charge, and they offer a lifetime warranty on all their creations. Just so you know.
