Design Manchester 2016

It’s October already! This month in Manchester England, from the 12th to the 23rd of October, is Design Manchester 2016. This means, for anyone in Manchester, you get to go and see some incredible talks, exhibitions, designers, tours, workshops. If you’re not in Manchester, like me, you will have to live vicariously through social media, and Design Manchester’s website to follow the activity. Sad but true.

Design Manchester is in its fourth year. It started as a way to create a strong ‘design voice’ in Manchester.

“We celebrate the part design plays in making Manchester and other cities great to live in. Not just our architecture, culture and world-class media, but the growth of start-ups and studios in creative tech, shops for a design-conscious generation and the return of craft in everything from beer to print in the new culture of making.”

Korean Crafts

I suppose I don’t know where this blog will lead me. But I never thought I’d be writing about kitchenware. By now if you’ve read some of my posts you will know I’m fond of Asia and design. So the melding of the two is a bonus. I recently found a kitchenware range manufactured by a Korean craftsman Kim Soo-Young in collaboration with designer Gio Kisang. It highlights Korean crafts at its best.

Kataoka Jewelry

Confession time. I hardly ever wear jewellery. In fact, it annoys me quite a lot. It makes me fidget, it distracts me, and sometimes it even makes me itchy. Especially rings, I hate how they make your finger sweaty underneath. Even if it’s those thin stack rings. The sweat is real. But, I also know the blood and sweat (literally) that goes into making a piece of jewellery. So I still appreciate a good design. Kataoka Jewelry is a brand that I can definitely appreciate.

On one of my bottomless Pinterest crawls, I came across Kataoka Jewelry. It stopped me in my scrolling tracks. I would wear every single thing designed by this brand. Fact.
